Halloween Decorating

by Janice on October 23, 2008

My second annual Halloween Bash is right around the corner, and with that come many questions on Halloween Decorating. But first, let’s talk about my big Halloween Party. Since I am a Poker fanatic (Texas Holdem) I decided to combine my party and poker into a Halloween Poker/Party and will have three tables to play on… should be hilarious playing poker in a costume… have never done that before! Believe me, I will video the whole event… perhaps share it with all of you online… stay tuned for the crazy video.

My first annual Halloween Bash was caught on video camera too… makes for a real treasure to view twenty years from now!  It was great!  My husband edited it with text and music… believe me when I say, the camcorder is a must-have at your next party!

Of course costumes are a must, and no one is sharing what their costumes will be, so it should be very interesting and exciting to see everybody. Since decorating is another passion of mine, there will be major decorating going on.  In my invitation I invite anyone who would like to help in the decorating to come the morning of… it’s all part of the fun.

You should consider having your own Halloween Bash next year. All my halloween decorating and party ideas are listed below so you’ll know exactly what to do to make it a smashing success. It’s so much fun to see all the adults dressed up and acting like total fools… why is it that when you’re in a costume, you feel the need to act the fool?

Ok, first thing…  invitations.  Email or hard-copy invitations.  Of course you want to give it a scary, halloween theme.  And make sure the invite states that they must RSVP by a certain date… you need to know an approximate head count so that you know how much food/snacks you will need.  Keep it simple and casual… even to the point of asking your guests to BYOB (Bring your own bottle)… there’s nothing wrong with that at all.  I even ask my guests to BADTP (Bring a dish to pass).  Believe it or not, people love to share their favorite dishes and recipes.

Next… be sure to order your costumes a head of time… especially if you are ordering online.  The last thing you want is to hear is that your pick is out of stock… I always start thinking about my costume in September.

Ok, your Halloween decorating ideas are listed below…  Good Luck and Happy Halloweening!

1. Have at least one adult size “Jason” in the house.

2. Scary music playing when your guests first arrive.

3. Fun, party music for the rest of the night.

4. Scary DVD movie playing on the TV.

5. Candles lit… make sure they are in pumpkins or other containers…not easily tipped for fire hazard.

6. Use spider webs everywhere.

7. Place plastic spiders on web and throughout the room.

8. Hang/place gruesome ghosts, ghouls, monsters, skulls, spiders, snakes, black cats, etc. everywhere.

9. Place tombstones.

10. Hang stringed lights everywhere… try to keep the ambience fairly dark… the lighting at a minimal.

11. Serve food and drinks in plasticware… no glass.

12. Serve finger foods: smoked weiners, chicken wings, crackers & cheese, cut vegetables & fruits, peanuts & pretzels, chips, etc.

13. Remember, not everyone drinks alchohol… serve bottled water, coke, 7 up, etc.

14. Don’t forget napkins, plastic forks, spoons, etc.

15. Have the people vote for the best costume… give a gift like a bottle of wine.

16. For easy cleanup, don’t forget trash bags, paper towels and cleaning products.
